Lake Tahoe, Nevada (and California!)

Updated: Nov 13, 2021

You always dream of that - "Perfect vacation," Well THIS IS IT. When it comes to thinking of Nevada, this is definitely not the first place to come to mind. If anything, I'm sure the image of deserts popped up in your head instantly. The water is absolutely stunning, this photo does it zero justice. Lake Tahoe has some of the clearest water you could ever imagine, visibility allowing you to see 70 feet below the water line. This is the perfect place to take a vacation as a single individual, with some friends, or even family trip. There are considered to be two major points of Lake Tahoe, the North and the South ends. While the North end is considered to be a little quieter and on the more relaxed side, the South end I believe is the perfect place to stay (even with kids). The south end is where you can be provided with a small amount of city life. Cute little restaurants and shops bordering the south end of the lake provide a nice break from lake life. The city has a small number of casinos if you are trying to have a night out- don't be scared by that statement, this is not a big gambling city like Reno or Las Vegas. The south side is also home to Heavenly Ski Resort. While this resort is closed in between the peak seasons in summer and winter, if it is open this is a MUST DO. This resort during the winter has amazing skiing if you're out there that time of year and ready for a new adventure. It is also home to a summer alpine coaster where you zip down the mountain while the lake provides stunning views in the distance. Even for someone who doesn't like rollercoasters you have to try it; it is nothing like an actual coaster - plus you only live once right. Despite where you decided to stay in Lake Tahoe there is plenty of options from hotels, Airbnb, and cabins. The drive from one end of the lake to the other is about 1.5 hours, so no matter where you decide to stay - you must rent a car so that you can explore all the key points around the lake. One thing that may shock you upon arrival is the cost of food. This trip had a slogan in the group I went with "Can we afford sun chips?" Try and stop and pick items up beforehand if you will be staying at a place with a kitchen - it will save you a good amount of money trust me. My favorite thing about Lake Tahoe is the hiking there is breathtaking. There is so many trails that line the lake or even go up into the mountains giving you and amazing view as you look down into the valley that holds Lake Tahoe. The water activities there are also endless - this is definitely a must do trip at least once in your lifetime.
